Even after decades, he is known for that iconic character. Cochin Haneefa made his debut as a comedian in Kireedam movie. Till 1989, he used to play villain roles. In 2007, Cochin Haneefa played the same role in Tamil version of Kireedam.
The skilled S. Kumar took the cinematographer’s role for this film and editing is by L. Bhoominathan. Kireedam was released on 7th July 1989. Later movie made other language versions in Telugu (Rowdyism Nasinchali in 1990), Kannada (Modada Mareyalli in 1991), Hindi (Gardish in 1993) and Tamil (Kireedam in 2007).
Melodious 2 songs composed by Johnson. They are “Kaneer Poovinte” and “Medaponnodam”, which are penned by Kaithapram. For the song “Kaneer Poovinte”, singer M. G. Sreekumar won his first Kerala State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer.
Movie talks about a young aspiring Sethumadhavan, whose life became a hell and all of his and his family’s dream shattered. Fate and the circumstance were against him and thus he turned as a noted criminal. Also, the characters of Sethumadhavan and Head Constable Achuthan Nair, father of Sethumadhavan still stays close to our hearts. Talented Mohanlal and Thilakan shows how much an actor has to breath the life of the character. They both are experts in conveying their emotions through their eyes. Thilakan did an awesome character of a father, who is forced to watch helplessly as his son’s bright future deteriorates before his eyes.
